Next Generation Repository
- Name: Next Generation Repository for the archiving of dynamic web applications
- Category/purpose: Archivierung und Langzeitverfügbarkeit von Webanwendungen aus der Forschung
Description: Research findings are often presented via web applications. However, once a project has ended, a lack of funding or maintenance frequently leads to problems with availability, IT security and data integrity.
The repository system developed enables the long-term preservation and controlled deployment of dynamic web applications by encapsulating complete applications (including databases, plug-ins and configurations) within Docker containers. The Dockerised applications are managed via YAML files and kept in standby mode, and can be started and stopped as required. This reduces technical and organisational risks, lowers maintenance costs and ensures the long-term usability of digital research results.
The project is currently at the prototype stage.
- Target group: Researchers who wish to permanently archive their research findings in the form of dynamic web applications and keep them accessible.
- Costs: If you are interested, please write to support.phaidra@univie.ac.at
- Origin/development: The project was developed as part of the Austrian DataLab and Services project (2020–2024) and is being further developed by the University of Vienna, Central IT Services, IT Support for Research Department, Project Operations Team.
